Fingerprints

I need clean windows in my car. I did a nice job of cleaning as my 6-year old granddaughter watched from the inside. Then she put her hands on the window leaving fingerprints quite visible. I said, “hands off my window!” Actually, most of the time we don’t really see fingerprints. If we liken fingerprints to the touches we make for Christ in a person’s life, we would be surprised by the number of people we’ve “fingerprinted.” I got a call two weeks ago from a woman who had lost her 40-year old daughter. The woman told me that 27 years ago I led her daughter to Christ when she was just age 16. She said I came to their home after they had been visiting the church and her daughter filled out a card saying she wanted to become a Christian. She reminded me that they never forgot that special day. I couldn’t remember leaving those fingerprints. That’s the way fingerprints are, you don’t remember who you touched for Christ.

What’s interesting about fingerprints is the way they begin. A family clan begins with one man and one woman, and years later their fingerprints are left in any number of kids, grandkids, and greats. I got on a plane and left Hawaii for good, met Judy soon after, we married and ended up with four sons, five granddaughters (still counting!), and daughters in law. A group photo is a thrill! In the same way, believers leave fingerprint of the mark of Christ on so many people.
Imagine what would happen if leaving the fingerprint of Christ became intentional! Every Sunday morning our churches have visitors flow in and flow out, and many times no fingerprint is left on them. An outstanding couple who love God and have much to offer the work of the Kingdom moved to a new community to retire. After five visits to a particular church, the woman said, “The people looked through us and around us, but not at us.” In other words, they were never acknowledged and decided to move on. We can leave the fingerprints of Christ on so many people if we had an intentional plan of follow up.  And that’s just the ones we can count! New Believer Concepts is dedicated to the training of churches who want to leave fingerprints all over the place.
