The pre-discipleship plan of New Believer Concepts provides training and methods in ministering to seven groups of people that attend your church using the unique "16/8 Plan" of making 16 contacts in the first 8 weeks.  The first group is the Sunday morning visitor who receives Christ; the second group is the Sunday morning visitor who does not receive Christ.  Strategies are needed to evangelize this person.  The third group is those who make recommitments to Christ.  The fourth group is those receiving pastoral counseling.  The lessons of "A New Heart" provide an excellent supplement to the counseling process.  The fifth group is any members of the church who want special growth opportunities. The sixth group is children from first grade to fifth grade. Finally, three lessons called "A New Heart for Teens" are for youth

Every person that receives follow-up ministry will be contacted once per week by the Follow-Up Director in the first eight weeks.  The Follow-up Team will teach eight lessons in this same eight-week period. The first lesson is a review of the gospel.  The next three are from the booklet "A New Heart."  And the next three are from "A New Heart 2," and there is a final review lesson.

Effective ministry is driven by the following Seven Concepts:

Concept 1 – Organizing a lay-involved and lay-led follow up ministry.  The Director calls the new believer 8 times in the first 8 weeks.

  1. A Biblical philosophy of follow up
    1. Go to the new believer; don’t wait for them to come to you.
    2. Mark 4:25 – “to him who has, more will be given...”
    3. Ephesians 4:11-12 – Pastors are to train, inspire and motivate the laity to do the work of the ministry.
    4. John 21:15 – “Feed my lambs” was said before Jesus said “feed my sheep."
  2. The ministry of new believer follow up should consist of a leader and a follow-up team.
  3. A "Nurturing New Believers" workshop on DVD will provide initial training
  4. Leaders will be shown how to provide ongoing training

Concept 2 - Using lay people to teach eight follow-up lessons one-on-one.  These lessons are featured in the two booklets "A New Heart" and "A New Heart 2."

Concept 3 – How to effectively deal with people who receive Christ in the church service.

  1. Follow up is possible only when the person who receives Christ in service is given immediate attention.
  2. Materials to use
  3. Methods to use

Concept 4 – Using lay people to privately present one of four gospel presentations. This is the first contact of eight by the follow up team.

  1. Present the gospel privately for clarification to those who received Christ in service. This is the first of eight lessons taught to new believers.
  2. How to present the gospel privately to those who did not receive Christ. Here is your opportunity to evangelize visitors.
  3. Choose a gospel method from among these four: The Heart, The Bridge and The Bride; Evangecube; The Cube, The Heart and the Bride; The Cube the Heart and the ABCs.

Concept 5 – Identifying visitors and setting up visits

  1. New believers come from your visitor flow.
  2. A quiet aggressiveness is needed to get visitor names and phone numbers.
  3. The guest card
  4. Methods of obtaining names
  5. Learn how to set up visits with visitors who don’t receive Christ

Concept 6 – Tracking new believers with a workable record-keeping system

Concept 7 – Ways to pray consistently for new believers and releasing laity to pray for new believers.

  1. Understanding spiritual warfare and new believer care
  2. Committing to pray for new believers for one year
  3. The value of “praying the Word”
  4. Using key scriptures to pray for new believers
  5. Maintaining and publishing an up-to-date new believer list
